Pallet program cost estimator
Estimate your weekly, monthly, and annual pallet program cost.
How the cost estimator works
Pricing is CME-indexed to softwood lumber front-month futures. Standard GMA 48x40 new-build hardwood $12-$18 per piece. Grade-A recycled $7-$13. Custom-engineered aerospace/pharma $20-$60 depending on spec. ISPM-15 heat-treatment adds $0.75-$3 per piece at FTL volume. Volume-tiered discount structure applies at 5/10/20/50-truck/week bands.
Pricing bands by pallet type
| Pallet type | Per-piece price range | Typical cycle life | Effective per-cycle (with buyback) |
|---|---|---|---|
| New GMA 48x40 standard hardwood | $12-$18 | 10-15 cycles | $0.80-$1.40 per cycle |
| New GMA 48x40 heavy-duty hardwood | $18-$32 | 15-25 cycles | $0.56-$1.80 per cycle |
| Grade-A recycled 48x40 | $7-$13 | 6-8 cycles | $0.75-$1.60 per cycle |
| Grade-B recycled 48x40 | $5-$10 | 4-6 cycles | $0.90-$2.00 per cycle |
| Grade-C recycled 48x40 | $3-$7 | 2-4 cycles | $1.00-$3.00 per cycle |
| Custom-engineered aerospace/pharma | $20-$60+ | 10-25 cycles | Quoted per spec |
Volume-tiered discount structure
- Standard pricing (0-4 trucks/week): baseline per-piece price.
- 5-truck/week band: approximately 7 percent discount.
- 10-truck/week band: approximately 12 percent discount.
- 20-truck/week band: approximately 18 percent discount.
- 50-truck/week band: approximately 25 percent discount.

What's the per-piece price range for GMA 48x40 pallets?
New GMA 48x40 standard hardwood $12-$18 per piece. New heavy-duty hardwood $18-$32. Grade-A recycled $7-$13. Grade-B recycled $5-$10. Grade-C recycled $3-$7. Custom-engineered (aerospace, pharma, specialty industrial) $20-$60+ depending on spec. Pricing bands shift with CME softwood lumber front-month futures.
Does ISPM-15 heat-treatment add to the price?
Yes - ISPM-15 heat-treatment for international export adds $1.50-$4 per pallet at low volume, $0.75-$3 per pallet at enterprise FTL volume (5-20 trucks/week). APHIS-registered Florida facility, 1-2 business day stamp lead time on standard pallets. Bilingual (English + Spanish) treatment-cycle log available for Latin American and Caribbean destinations.
How does volume-tiered discount work?
Approximate discount tiers: 0-4 trucks/week standard pricing, 5-truck/week 7 percent discount, 10-truck/week 12 percent, 20-truck/week 18 percent, 50-truck/week 25 percent. Discount percentages shift with CME softwood lumber front-month futures and specific lane geometry. For firm program pricing, request a quote.
Does the cost estimator include destination buyback credit?
The cost estimator shows annual cost BEFORE buyback credit. Destination buyback credit $2-$6 per piece in 250+ single-size single-location batches returns 15-40 percent of initial pallet cost at end-of-life. Effective per-cycle cost with buyback is in the table above.
How does CME-indexed pricing work?
CME (Chicago Mercantile Exchange) softwood lumber front-month futures is the industry pricing reference. USP pricing bands move with CME. For enterprise standing-weekly programs, CME-indexed pricing is transparent (buyer can audit against published front-month futures). This differs from opaque pool-rebalancing economics that pool operators use.
How does the cost estimator compare to CHEP/PECO pool pricing?
The cost estimator shows owned-model economics. Pool-model (CHEP, PECO) pricing is $5-$9 per trip rental plus lost-pallet-fee ($25-$30 per lost pallet) plus pool-rebalancing surcharges. Effective per-trip pool cost $6.00-$11.70. Owned model effective per-cycle $0.60-$1.40 at standing-weekly volume with buyback credit.
Can I get custom-engineered pallets with pricing?
Yes - for custom-engineered applications (aerospace ASTM D1185, pharma cGMP, specialty production-line fixtures, specialty industrial applications), request a quote with specific dimensions, bolt patterns, pass-through requirements, and load-rating documentation requirements. Custom-engineered pricing is quoted per spec.
Does USP support emergency expedite dispatch pricing?
Yes - same-day and next-day emergency expedite dispatch pricing structure applies for post-storm restoration, specialty industrial restoration (utility pole, transformer, generator transport), and specialty emergency component transport. Standard-cadence standing-weekly pricing applies to post-storm restoration with emergency expedite dispatch surcharge only (USP does not price-gouge during hurricane emergency).
