ISPM-15 Definition
IPPC International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 - heat treatment to 56C core temp for 30+ minutes, sealed with IPPC mark including country code, facility code, and HT mark.
Required Countries
180+ IPPC member countries require ISPM-15 marking on wood packaging materials including pallets, crates, dunnage. Includes EU, China, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, Australia, India.
US Domestic Exemption
US-to-US shipments do not require ISPM-15. Wood packaging mark optional.
Treatment Methods
Heat treatment dominates 95%+ of ISPM-15 pallets. Methyl bromide fumigation declining (phased out by Montreal Protocol in many countries). Dielectric heat treatment growing.
Cost
ISPM-15 stamping adds $0.85-1.10 per pallet vs domestic. Required at ALSC-accredited facility.
