EUDR Overview

EU Regulation 2023/1115 effective Dec 30, 2025 (large operators) / Jun 30, 2026 (SMEs). Prohibits placement on EU market of products from deforested land. Wood/wood products in scope.

Scope

Pallets, crates, dunnage, wood packaging materials are in scope. Required: due diligence statement, geolocation of harvest, deforestation-free certification.

Compliance Requirements

1. Geolocation of harvest plots. 2. Verification of deforestation-free status (post Dec 31, 2020). 3. Due diligence statement submitted to EU Information System. 4. Risk assessment + mitigation.

Pallet Supplier Role

Pallet supplier must provide: lumber origin geolocation, FSC or PEFC chain-of-custody (preferred), due diligence documentation. USP supports EUDR-aligned wood sourcing.

Cost Implications

EUDR-aligned wood typically commands 10-20% premium. Build into contract pricing for EU-bound shipments.
