RFID Mandate Overview

Major retailers (Walmart, Macys, Bloomingdales, Lululemon, others) require RFID tagging at item level for various categories. Some require pallet-level RFID for traceability.

Pallet RFID Specs

EPC Class 1 Gen 2 UHF RFID inlay embedded in pallet deckboard or affixed to pallet. Data: SGTIN-96 (item), SSCC (pallet), GIAI (asset).

Reader Infrastructure

Dock-door portals, handheld readers, fixed mount overhead. Read range: 3-10 feet typical. Standard frequencies: 902-928 MHz (US).

Implementation Steps

1. Audit retailer RFID requirements per category. 2. Select tag inlay (Avery Dennison, Smartrac, etc). 3. Integrate with WMS/ERP. 4. Pilot at low-volume DC. 5. Full rollout.
